for a while, my friend and i have been having a debate over star wars versus star trek, so i ask you, which is the superior group, I'm creating a poll on this, so be sure to answer it
This is a perennial comparo and one that is as deeply divisive as US politics. In my humble opinion, Star Trek represents a utopian future view very much informed by the optimism of the 1960s (when creator Gene Roddenberry sold the show's concept to NBC). Gene injected his own progressive kind of worldview into the story and this is apparent with the messages embedded into some of the episodes (racism, tolerance, feminism etc). Star Wars on the other hand was a loose "long time ago in a galaxy far away" serial created by George Lucas that was a simple good vs evil story in a time of political upheaval. To compare them is pretty much an apples to oranges thing in my mind and frankly, both suffer from some pretty poorly written scripts/bad action/cheesy allegories. Having said this, I think it's always important to imagine the ends to which our advancing technology and social evolution takes us. Federation versus Empire/Rebel Alliance? The 2 universes are so vastly different that they'd never find each other to fight ;-)
but, if they did, I'm afraid the two death stars would destroy them, and spock's vulcan grab wouldn't stand a chance against dearth sidiouses force lightning
but then again. they both work off of different systems, for all we now, kurk might be faster then usaine bolt, and luke may no be able to lift 20 pounds, because of all the gravity changes and systems. but they have yet to come out with a star trek online game like they did with star wars. check out the old republic
