did you know that the amount of money we spend on war could have sent alot of families on the streets into a home. please post anything related to this question. i'm interested in knowing what else we could have done with the money
VJStone, You do raise a good point but one that is very complex. Imagine a world where there were no 'policemen' and bad guys could run unchecked...pretty scary. I think that we need a good balance and that's always the hardest part in my view. In other words, how much does say a country like Canada spend on its military and police versus what it spends feeding, clothing and taking care of its citizens...? Combine this with an unwillingness on the part of the people to pay a lot more in taxes (needed to pay for all of this) and it's a very tough thing to manage. My 2 cents Victor.
but, imagine a world where their was no such thing as war, but we continued to spend money on policemen and other such items, we would be wasting our money away. remember, crime is at its lowest it as ever been. gone are the days of big bank robbery's. nowendays, its men behind desks sending credit cards scams. and every few days, one of those desks is emptied.
Yes, good points (and funny reference to the new white collar criminals). I can imagine the kind of world you mention but have a hard time feeling that it's coming anytime soon. Some famous scientists have speculated that we need an external focus - an alien encounter - to stop us from being so pathetically tribal ;-)
so, we would be calling e.t, the daleks and chewbacca to stop our tribalness, so in other words, we need people to rib us limb from limb, vaporise us, and eat our reeces pieces
anyone else subscribing?

but, if we continue at this rate, crime will be gone and we will be spending money on simple matters such as transportation and medication
